Creamy Chocolate Icing

    20 minutes

This icing is not as sickly as buttercream but is much nicer than plain glace icing. It sets but not too solidly. This makes enough to ice and fill and 20cm cake.

    Serves: 1

    • 60g butter or margarine
    • 2 tablespoons milk
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa
    • 1 1/2 cups (250g) sifted icing sugar

    Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:5min  ›  Extra time:10min  ›  Ready in:20min

    1. Put butter, milk and cocoa into a saucepan then heat gently until it's all melted and mixed together. Take it off the heat and allow to cool slightly.
    2. Add the icing sugar about a quarter of it at a time then beat until smooth.

Does the photo show this icing on top of the cake, or is it the icing used on the sides and as a filling?  -  22 Oct 2012  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)

Yum! This was sooo good! Really easy to make, although I had to be fast when icing my cake, it seems to start to set very quickly! Which was fine, as I didn't have to wait too long to eat it afterwards!  -  21 May 2011  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)

this recipe is delicious; not too sickly but lovely and sweet and sets quickly so minimal dripping! i was rushing and didn't sieve the icing sugar and cocoa thinking 'how important can that be?' ... turns out very so i had tiny white lumps of icing sugar and cocoa in mine yet still tasted fab. goes very well with the hot milk chocolate cake recipe on this site in case anybody is looking for something to bake recipe made just enough to cover and fill a 9" two layer cake.  -  03 Mar 2013  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
