Beef, Bean and Cabbage Stew

A delicious and warming stew based on beef mince, cabbage and beans. You can use whatever tinned beans you have available, we use borlotti and kidney beans.


Serves: 8 

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 (400g) tin borlotti beans
  • 1 (400g) tin kidney beans
  • 1 (400g) tin diced tomatoes
  • 1 (330g) tin corn kernels, drained
  • 1 (600g) jar tomato puree or passata
  • 200ml water
  • 1 small white cabbage, shredded
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • salt and black pepper, to taste

Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:1hour10min  ›  Ready in:1hour30min 

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat cook the mince and onion until brown; drain.
  2. Return mince to saucepan with borlotti beans, kidney beans, tomatoes, corn kernels, tomato puree or passata, water, cabbage, carrots and seasoning.
  3. Simmer over low heat 1 hour.

This was so easy and very tasty. I added a 50g packet of Taco Seasoning and half a small bottle of Taco Sauce for a Mexican flavour. We had it on baked potatoes with sour cream on top. Delicious !! - 20 Jul 2010
