Fry bread is a Native American recipe for flatbread. It's good with almost anything - you can serve it with curries or stews or even sprinkle it with icing sugar for a sweet treat.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 6

    • 140g self raising flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 175ml milk

    Directions
    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. Make egg-sized balls of the dough, then roll out until fairly thin. Heat plenty of oil in a deep frypan and fry the breads until golden on both sides, one at a time. Drain on paper towels.
    2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, mixing with your fingers. Add more flour if necessary until it is not sticky. Knead well on a floured surface.

Made it healthier. instead of frying it, I put it on a non-stick sauce pan. The key is to make it as flat as possible.  -  17 Jan 2010  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)

very versatile. You can add herbs, spices, cheese. Sugar and cinnamon would be great too. Great for a qucik bread, and can even be used to make sandwiches. Made in no time!  -  17 Jan 2010  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)

super easy, I remembered this recipe after I realised I was out of rice for a curry I had made... everybody in the house ate it, including my super fussy 6 yr old!  -  06 Aug 2010  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
