If you have a plum tree or plums are on special you have to make your own plum jam. Nothing tastes better than homemade jam and it also makes great presents.


Serves: 70 

  • 1.8kg caster sugar
  • 1kg coarsely ground peeled plums
  • 2/3 cup (170ml) water
  • 100ml lemon juice
  • 25g jamsetta/pectin (about half a Jamsetta sachet)

Preparation:30min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:50min 

  1. In a large pot, combine sugar, plums, water and lemon juice.
  2. Bring to the boil, stirring constantly. Stir in pectin; return to a full boil. Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; skim off foam.
  3. Pour hot jam into hot jars, leaving 6mm headspace. Adjust caps. Process for 10 minutes in a boiling-water bath.
