Stewed apples make a delicious breakfast but can also be served with dessert, as a sauce over ice cream or cake.


Serves: 8 

  • 65g butter
  • 4 large tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced 5mm thick
  • 2 teaspoons cornflour
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) cold water
  • 1/2 cup (90g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min 

  1. In a large frypan or saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; add apples. Cook, stirring constantly, until apples are almost tender, about 6 to 7 minutes.
  2. Dissolve cornflour in water; add to frypan. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and serve warm.

This was great though I had to hold back the cinnamon due to some one not wanting it but it was still great! We made a crumble separately and it came together beautifully - also, I doubled the recipe and used quite a bit of the butter from stewing the apples back into the crumble. I removed about half the butter before adding the water, cornflower and sugar. I think it was the best apple crumble I've ever made!! Very proud!! - 02 Jan 2015
