Sesame Prawn Toast

You might have had this delicious dish at a Chinese restaurant. It's actually very easy to make at home.


Serves: 6 

  • 375g prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 2 teaspoons plain flour
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 egg whites
  • 4 slices wholemeal bread
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • 2 cups (500ml) oil for frying (or as needed)

  1. Heat oil in a large frypan over medium high heat
  2. Chop and mash prawns using a large knife. In a bowl, mix together prawns, flour, egg yolks, salt and pepper. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks then fold into the prawn mixture.
  3. Slice bread into 4 triangles each. Put 2 teaspoons of the prawn mixture onto each piece and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  4. Starting with the prawn side down, fry for 3 minutes. Turn, and fry for another 3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oil, drain on paper towels and serve warm.

my boyfreiend who very rarely does much in the kitchen except be an amatuer microwave technician (tries to heat things up!) helped me out making this recipe (as i was preparing it as part of an asian inspired banquet)...he found it easy with a little of my instruction...only drama we had was medium high heat seemed a bit too high for our test out cooking a piece cremated prawn toast tends to not get eaten! - 26 Nov 2010
