Mashed Potatoes with Mustard

These flavoursome mashed potatoes goes well with German dishes. You can alter the amount of mustard depending how hot you like it.


Serves: 4 

  • 5 red potatoes, scrubbed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup (65ml) milk
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup (65ml) whole grain mustard

  1. Place the potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water. Bring to a boil over high heat then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer until tender; about 20 minutes.
  2. Drain and allow to steam dry for a minute or two. Mash potatoes in a large bowl with the butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Blend the potatoes using an electric mixer set on medium until smooth; 3 to 4 minutes. Add more milk if the potatoes are too dry.
  4. Mix in the whole grain mustard and serve immediately.
