Greek Zucchini Balls (Kolokythokeftedes)

A very easy recipe for deep fried zucchini balls as an entree.


Serves: 2 

  • 1 zucchini, grated
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 1/2 carrot, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 celery root (celeriac), peeled and grated
  • 3/4 tablespoon aniseed, crushed
  • 1/2 tablespoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup (65g) plain flour, or as needed
  • 1L oil for frying

  1. Mix zucchini, onion, carrot, garlic, celery root, aniseed, celery seed, salt and pepper together in a bowl. Gradually stir in flour until you have a soft, wet dough that sticks to your hands.
  2. Heat oil in deep-fryer to 190 degrees C. Drop dough by tablespoons into the fryer and fry on both sides until lightly browned.
