Preheat oven to 165 degrees C. Grease and flour a 22cm square tray.
In a large bowl combine flour, 1 cup coconut, dates, sugar and baking powder. In a saucepan melt butter, golden syrup and vanilla. Pour over mixture in bowl. Mix until crumbly then press into prepared tray.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes. Sprinkle top with remaining coconut.
This is a great slice. Very tasty and easy and can be adapted to almost any other ingredients instead of the dates. I cut mine while still quite warm so that it doesn't crumble. Just delicious. - 16 Aug 2010
