Macaroni and cheese in the microwave

    This is a quick and delicious version of an American classic. Add diced ham or tomatoes or top with Cheddar cheese slices and grill for more variety.

    Serves: 5 

    • 1 cup (155g) macaroni
    • 1 cup (250ml) milk
    • 3 tablespoons plain flour
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 2 tablespoons (40g) butter
    • 1 cup (125g) grated Cheddar cheese

    1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain and reserve.
    2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine milk, flour and salt and pepper to taste; whisk or beat until smooth. Add butter and cheese; microwave on high for 5 minutes and whisk until smooth. Microwave for an additional 4 to 5 minutes and whisk or beat until smooth and no lumps remain.
    3. Add cooked pasta to mixture; stir and serve.

    this was very delicious, added a but more milk. I packed the cheese down when I was grating, so it came out more cheesier, also I would advise to wisk every 1 minute when in the micro, this makes it less lumpy.  -  09 May 2004  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
