These spicy burgers are cooked on the barbecue (they can also be cooked in a frypan) and served with a hot barbecue sauce.

Ingredients

Serves: 4
  • 500g beef mince
  • 3 tablespoons dried breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3 spring onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 4 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • extra 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese

Preparation method

Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 15 minutes
1.
Preheat barbecue to high.
2.
In a medium bowl, mix the mince, breadcrumbs, egg, spring onions, 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning and mustard. Form into 4 burgers.
3.
In a small bowl, blend the barbecue sauce and remaining teaspoon Cajun seasoning.
4.
Lightly oil the barbecue and cook the burgers 5 minutes each side, or until well done. Place a slice of cheese on each burger and allow to melt. Serve with seasoned barbecued sauce.

I made these for a barbecue and got rave reviews. We liked the spicy cajun barbecue sauce a lot. I bet these would be great with bacon. I would consider using less egg and breadcrumbs next time, because the combination of the two usually make the burger tough, but the breadcrumbs add really good flavour. If you want the burger spicier I would suggest some extra Cayenne pepper. Definitely keeping this recipe for my next bbq!
