'Sorta' apple turnover

    30 minutes

I threw this together with what I had in the pantry. I was craving an apple turnover and had some leftover apples so I decided I'd make my own version of one of my favourite desserts.

    • 2 med granny smith apples
    • 2 puff pastry sheets - thawed
    • 2 tablespoons plain flour
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1-2 teaspoons cinnamon (depending on personal taste)
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 1 egg - beaten

    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. Preheat oven to 180 - 200 degrees C
    2. Peel and core apples and chop into small cubes
    3. Put apples into a bowl along with water, flour, sugar and cinnamon and mix together well
    4. Cut pastry sheets in half diagonally and divide apple mixture evenly onto centre of pastry halves
    5. Brush egg around edges to stick pastry together. Prick the top of pastry parcels with a fork and brush tops lightly with egg
    6. Bake until pastry is puffed and golden brown. Dust with icing sugar if desired. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream

Beautiful and very simple recipe! I found the apple turnovers really big though so next time will probably try and make 4 out of each sheet of pastry. I also had quite a bit of apple mixture left over but I just froze that for next time.  -  22 May 2011

Nice and easy recipe. I cut the pastry into 4 to make them smaller and easier to eat. My 3 years old daughter loves them much!  -  16 Aug 2017
