Place milk, 90ml water, egg, salt, white sugar, butter or margarine, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange rind, bread flour, yeast and sultanas into the pan of the bread machine. Select the Dough setting, and press Start.
When the cycle is finished form the dough into 15 buns and place on a greased 23x33cm tray. Let rise for one hour.
Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Mix the flour and water together and pipe crosses onto the buns. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool.
I live in China where you cannot buy HCB's so I made these 3 times and they didn't last long.
These were really easy, mixing the dough in the bread maker, then cooking in the oven. For the crosses I used 1/3 cup icing sugar with 2 tsp milk and a drop of vanilla.
