This is an oven baked damper loaf but if you want to be traditional you can cook it over a campfire on a stick! Serve with cocky's joy (golden syrup).


Serves: 4 

  • 3 cups (375g) self-raising flour
  • 90g melted butter
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) water
  • golden syrup as needed

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:25min  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. Preheat oven to 210 degrees C. Brush oil over baking tray.
  2. Sift flour and salt into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre. Combine butter, water and milk and add to flour. Stir until combined.
  3. Knead until smooth and form into a round-ish loaf. Score into 8 sections, 1 cm deep. Brush with milk, dust with flour and bake for 10 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to 180 degrees. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Serve with extra butter and golden syrup.
