This is truly the best ever chocolate brownie recipe I have ever tasted. It is simple but creates a great result.

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa

  • 1 (200g) family block of chocolate, chop into chunks

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:40min

  1. Preheat and oven to 175 degrees C. Line a sponge roll tin with baking paper.
  2. Melt the butter, then beat in eggs, sugar and vanilla, beat well.
  3. Add dry ingredients and chopped up chunks of chocolate.
  4. Cook in the prepared sponge roll tin for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven.
  5. When cool cut into diagonals and dust with icing sugar.

I have a question before I start... How much does a 'family block' weigh? And can I use couverture or good quality dark chocolate? (I usually buy Haigh's.) - 29 Jan 2010

Loved it so easy to make althought I think next time i will half it for my tin.... - 12 Sep 2010

After craving chocolate all day, this is exactly the recipe I was looking for! Following advice from a friend, I tried this recipe replacing 3/4 cup white sugar with brown sugar, and added 1 tsp almond essence to give a deeper flavour. The result was excellent and not as sweet as other brown recipes I've tried. However, it did take 40-45min for mine to that possibly from using the brown sugar, or maybe I had a smaller pan than suggested? - 13 Mar 2010
