Stir fried spicy green beans

This side dish is one of my favourites. Ii is also great with snake beans.


Serves: 4 

  • 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 an onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 500g fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1/4 cup (65ml) soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1/4 cup (65ml) water
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • salt and pepper to taste

  1. Heat the oil in a frypan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic; cook and stir for a few minutes then add the green beans. Stir to coat with the flavours in the pan.
  2. Season with soy sauce and fish sauce and let simmer for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour in the water and let simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the beans are tender. Stir in tomato and season with salt and pepper before serving.
